Even Lamer Than Dead Dot Coms
from the good-summary dept
“Even lamer than a busted dot-com” is the headline of Salon.com’s review of Philip Kaplan’s F’d Companies book. Apparently, it just takes a bunch of the failed dot coms listed on the FuckedCompany site and puts them in a book. He even makes them less funny and less interesting. While the same info is available for free on the site – you have to pay for it in the book (something the reviewer points out Kaplan makes fun of other online sites for doing). Finally, the most important reason to avoid the book: the writing simply sucks. I think it’s possible to write an interesting, insightful, and even funny book about dot com failures. I don’t think what Pud is putting out qualifies on any of those standards.

Cave's piece is labeled "Satire"
I don’t think Cave is serious about his review. It’s labeled as “satire,” and I can’t recall any other book review in Salon that called someone an “ASSMONKEY” in capital letters. Also, how can you say the writing sucks if you haven’t read it?
