Putting Garbage Online (Literally)

from the who-says-the-web-isn't-fun-anymore? dept

Wasn’t the NY Times just talking about how the web isn’t any fun any more? Well, here’s yet another example of some random fad that’s apparently taken off. Wired has an article about a variety of sites that take “found” items and put them online. Generally, this means garbage. They find discarded love letters or photos that they find interesting or amusing and put them up. Many of these sites have a huge following. It is somewhat intriguing to be able to get a brief glimpse of someone else’s private life. The article goes off on a tangent midway through wondering if this “found” stuff counts as Art (with a capital A) – but I doubt that most of these “found” websites consider it that way.
