PCs That See In 3D
from the cheap,-too dept
An interesting article about new, inexpensive sensors that can be used in PCs and mobile devices that will allow those devices to see in 3D. Unlike normal cameras that just determine light, these determine light and distance to create a 3D image. While there have been other sensors like this, the difference here is that these should be cheap enough to put them into computers and other gadgets without costing too much extra. Of course, the technology isn’t completely ready yet, but they expect to have something on the market next year.

don't hold your breath
I checked out the company’s web site, and my gut feeling is that anything remotely inexpensive or practical is several years away, if ever. Of course, I’m a pessimist by nature.
