Hi Sexy, You're About To Get Scammed

from the you-would-think-this-was-illegal... dept

In what would seem to be a very illegal move, a company has been sending “spam” SMS text messages to mobile phones in the UK that start off with the message “Hi sexy”. If the receiver of the message responds in any way, they are registered for a reverse charging text message service, at which point they start receiving a ton of SMS-text spam (often sexually explicit) for which they are charged ?1.50 a pop. Apparently, many children are accidentally signing up. I can’t see how this could possibly be legal, or how whoever set it up could expect to get away with it.
