Boucher Getting Anti-Anti-Piracy Technology Bill

from the good-news dept

Rep. Rick Boucher, who seems to be quickly becoming the “peoples’ friend” when it comes to copy protection schemes for music is saying he will soon introduce some legislation on the matter that could potentially call for a ban of such technology – or at the very least very clear labelling. I think it’s amusing that the industry has been pushing the government to force everyone to use the copy protection scheme of their choosing, and now there’s a chance that the gov’t will come back and force them not to use any. Of course, I’m still hoping (yes, I know it’s hopeless) that the music industry actually comes to their senses and realizes that everytime they put out a copy protected CD they’re shooting themselves in the foot again.
