Scanning Technology Does Not Work Well

from the of-course dept

Privacy experts have been saying for ages that things like face recognition technology don’t work very well. Finally, the government seems to be admitting it (though, they’re still using it). A pilot program by the Department of Defense has shown that a face recognition system properly picked out someone only about 50% of the time. It’s advertised as working 75% to 99%. An iris matching program advertised to work correctly 99% of the time, only worked 94% of the time.
