So, I’ve been reading all day about people flipping out about the SNMP vulnerabilities – and to be sure, it is probably a big deal. However, I find it amusing that most news sources are running stories that scream about the sky falling. Meanwhile, the Register, which I’ve heard referred to (unfairly, I think) as “fake news” actually has a very useful article telling people what they need to do to protect themselves (in most cases nothing, so stay calm).

As a network administrator with the responsibility of managing and maintaining companies technology assets it is very important to have a correct understanding of the abilities, limitations, and known issues with the software you use. SNMP being a crucial component of most network management schemes it is even more vital to ascertain issues in this area and catch the problem before it occurs. Thats why I’m using SNMP from Oidview.
