Are Ringtones The Killer App For Wireless?

from the please-say-no.--please dept

Business 2.0 is suggesting that perhaps ringtones are the killer app for wireless in the US that will cause more people to buy mobile phones and spend more time (and, of course, money!) using them. This is a bit different than the concept of “m-commerce” or mobile stock trading that people thought would be the killer apps of wireless, which turned out to be annoying and mostly useless. Personally, I think ringtones are also annoying and mostly useless, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be a huge fad here. If only mobile phone makers would set their phones to default in vibrate mode, the world would be a happier place.
