Self Pity Is So… Pitiful
from the get-over-it dept
Eric Savitz, formerly from the Industry Standard, has written an obituary for the Industry Standard (in the NY Times, so stay away if you’re registration phobic). It’s one of those self-pitying, “we were on top of the world” obituaries that doesn’t really look at what they did wrong, and seems to assume that everyone really thought the Industry Standard was the magazine of the new economy. Note to Savitz: most people couldn’t distinguish the Industry Standard from Red Herring, Wired, Business 2.0, eCompany Now, Fast Company, or whatever other “new economy” magazine you threw at them. It’s a bit full of yourself to claim that you’re the “last one to leave the dot com revolution”.

Maybe Industry Standard would have had a chance if it had raised its advertisement-to-article ratio above 30,000:1 like Fast Company.
