Need To Get Smarter About Layoffs

from the well,-duh dept

I’ve been saying this since the era of layoffs began, but companies are being stupid about how they lay people off. They’re focusing on short term, Wall Street-appeasing moves, rather than well thought out, careful moves designed to actually help the company. Hiring talented people is a very difficult thing, and to randomly lay off people willy-nilly seems like a very expensive mistake. No doubt, many of the people getting laid off are very smart, very talented people, that the company is likely to miss when (if) they make it to recovery.
