Stephen Hawking: We Must Colonize Space, Or Be Wiped Out
from the biological-diversification dept
The whole (incredibly simplified) concept of “diversification” in financial portfolio theory is to make sure that all of your eggs aren’t in a single basket. Now, famed scientist Stephen Hawking is saying, more or less, that we need to diversify our habitats a bit to avoid being wiped out by some sort of biological virus. He suggests colonizing space, so that the colonists live on when some nitwit scientists accidentally kill all living humans on earth (okay, a bit of a paraphrase, but I think that’s what he’s getting at). Not the most pleasant thing to read.
