Inside.com Writes Its Own Obituary

from the pumps-itself-up-a-bit,-too dept

Well, if you had to write your own obituary, you’d probably make yourself sound a lot better than you ever were too. That’s exactly what has happened at Inside.com, where they’ve written a story about their own shutdown. Many people thought that Inside.com was doomed from the beginning, and we said so. However, it appears that people inside Inside.com actually believed their own hype. In the “obit” piece, the writer says that Inside.com was the “white-hot” star of the media world. Funny, then, that all I remember about them was that they never had a real business plan, and always seemed confident that because they were founded by “media superstars” it didn’t matter. They could never get anyone to sign up for their subscription plan, and never were that great of a site. There are plenty of sites out there that are (or were) “must reads”. I don’t know anyone who felt that Inside.com was ever a must read. The obit also spends time trashing Brill’s Content (with whom Inside.com was merged earlier this year). The actual similarity between both of those media properties was they always believed they were a lot more important to the world than they ever were.
