Corporate IM: Popular, But Dangerous

from the security,-where-are-you? dept

It seems that more and more people who work in corporate settings are setting up their own free IM clients in order to talk to others at work (and, often, not at work). The problem with this, of course, is that these IM programs weren’t designed for secure chatting – and so certain private conversations might not be so private. This will probably eventually lead to a market for enterprise IM. However, companies shouldn’t necessarily prevent employees from using IM completely, since it can be a very useful tool.
