Biometrics Comes Into Focus
from the looking-for-solutions dept
As was briefly discussed yesterday in looking for technology companies/industries that are suddenly getting more attention, here’s an article about how biometrics companies are starting to get a lot of phone calls. Imagine having to go through retinal scans and a routine fingerprinting every time you want to board a plane. There are also technologies for scanning baggage for bombs, and the ever popular random face scanning technologies. Suddenly all the companies that make such things are looking like they might be better investments than they were two weeks ago. While I’ve seen a few other articles on the subject, they all at least pay lip service to the question of how this might take away civil liberties. It’s a little scary that the NY Times doesn’t even think that’s a question that needs to be raised.

I remember I posted this story about Heathrow airport testing an iris-recognition algorithm…. I guess they’ll speed up those trials now.
