Amateur Newsies Top The Pros
from the self-congratulatory-backslapping dept
Wired has another article on how many amateur reporters and photographers ended up with much better accounts of what happened last Tuesday, and the emotions, thoughts, and feelings of people everywhere. To me, this isn’t such a surprise – but I’m not sure how many people really read or saw the amateur content. Of course, there is a group of folks who look at “amateur” content all the time – so it’s no surprise that they continued to do so throughout the tragic events. However, how many people in broader society ended up discovering the same photographs and accounts that were passed around, mirrored, and linked to throughout the amateur community?

"amateur" news sites
One of the first things we noticed in our office last Tuesday morning was that the radio and the various internet sources(amateur and pro)were
always much faster than the TV news – sometimes by 1/2 hour it seemed – at relaying late breaking news, and in confirming or denying rumours.
