eBay's New Banner Ad Program: For Insiders Only

from the keeping-traffic-local dept

eBay is starting a new program that will allow its own “power sellers” to buy banner ads on eBay that, in turn, point users to that power seller’s eBay page or auction. It’s an interesting twist on banner ads, in that they’re still making some money in selling them – but keeping the traffic on the site. Of course, it’s unclear how many of these “power sellers” will buy into the program. It’s hard to believe that these banner ads will pay off. People come to eBay, do a search, and then bid. It’s not clear that a banner ad would attract any significantly noticeable traffic.
