The Email Of The Wild

from the tracking-birds-and-other-critters-with-TCP/IP dept

Remember when tracking birds and other wildlife critters required radio transmitters and following them around? Well, here comes modern technology that lets people attach special transmitters to animals that dumps info to a satellite, which will then email the results to the scientists following them. The email can include information about exactly where an animal is and temperature info as well. So far it’s been useful in learning some new things about bald eagles and manatees (among others). The article also has a weird paragraph at the end wondering when people will follow suit. They see it as an extension of the jennicam phenomenon – where people will be able to get emails with exact locations and body temperature of anyone they want to follow. Sounds like a blast.
