Palm Buys Be

from the add-two-shakey-companies-and-what-do-you-get? dept

Palm is buying Be. Seems like quite the questionable deal. Admittedly, Be is pretty cheap at this point ($11 million), but it’s not completely clear what (if anything) they add to Palm, and they could make things more confusing as the companies try to deal with integration. This is also happening at the same time Palm is trying to split its software and hardware divisions into separate companies – so this probably doesn’t make that situation any clearer. It does seem like a sad end for Be, who always seemed like they were doing cool stuff that no one knew or cared about. Update: In somewhat associated news, it turns out that the head of Palm’s OS division has announced he is resigning. Seems like pretty questionable timing, considering the Be deal.
