New Music Anti-Piracy Could Damage Speakers
from the seems-a-bit-extreme dept
We’ve talked about some of the new plans to copy protect music on CDs. However, I didn’t realize that some of the schemes have the potential to damage your speakers if you’re caught using a pirated CD. The companies involved claim this hasn’t happened, but it sounds like they could set it up to do so on purpose. This would probably push people a bit over the edge in terms of what’s acceptable.

MP3 protection
if you record the music analogue via your sound card doesnt this get around any protection that is put on digitally?……and if this is true how are the record companies ever going to stop that?…
Re: MP3 protection
I think you’re right (I’m just guessing here). But wouldn’t the quality be less? That might be what they are betting on – the fact that people only want the highest quality copies. I don’t know if my assumption is right in the first place, though.
