Does Sponsorship Threaten Credibility?

from the of-course-it-does dept

The NY Times (apparently they require a free registration) has an article asking if small one or two person websites lose their credibility if they accept sponsorships. Honestly, this seems like a silly question. Any media that receives sponsorship or advertising risks losing their credibility. However, simply accepting a sponsorship doesn’t automatically remove credibility. People should continue to judge the content on its merits (you should never believe what you read in the first place anyway), and use the sponsorship as one datapoint in how much weight you give to any particular content.
