AOL May Drop RIM BlackBerry Pagers

from the ouch dept

Analysts are suggesting that AOL may stop offering RIM pagers as part of its AOL Mobile Communicator strategy. Apparently, there was some confusion over the price of the devices, and AOL is getting charged nearly 3 times as much as they expected. The article is extremely unclear on why or how this happened. They seem to blame Motorola – but I don’t really see what Motorola has to do with this. RIM, of course, plays this off suggesting it wouldn’t be a big deal to them – and they’re probably right because I haven’t heard much about AOL being successful selling the RIMs. I don’t think they’re being marketed very well, and I don’t think RIM has really designed the devices for consumer use.
