PowerPoint In The Classroom

from the it's-everywhere...-it's-taking-over dept

You just can’t get away from PowerPoint, apparently. The software which is insanely popular among businesses (though, not at Sun Microsystems), is now becoming increasingly popular in classrooms from kindergarten to twelth grade. Some teachers are using it to present lessons – but it’s becoming very popular with student presentations and reports. While I can see why it would be good for students to learn how to use such a tool, some folks are afraid of “powerpointlessness” creeping in to education. They think that PowerPoint may hurt creativity by standardizing how children think about presenting things. I think that may be a little far fetched, but I also don’t think that PowerPoint is the right tool for all school projects. Whatever happened to scissors and glue?
