Bertelsmann To Buy MyPlay
from the more-consolidation dept
Following on the news that Vivendi Universal was buying MP3.com, now we find out that Bertelsmann is going to buy MyPlay and integrate it with its other online music properties, such as CDNow and BMG Music Service. They’re still not sure if it will get integrated with Napster (who Bertelsmann has an investment in). It’s funny how all these “threatening” music startups are suddenly being swept up by the major labels.

Swept up, gobbled up.. call it what you will. I find it hard to believe that this wasn’t the record industrie’s goal all along. It fits into the “if you can’t beat em, buy em” mentality.
