More On Danger Research

from the different-business-models dept

More and more details are starting to come out about the plans of formerly stealthy startup Danger Research. The basic spin remains the same: they’re working on a device that can out Blackberry the Blackberry. It will let you access web pages using full HTML as well as email. The big differences are that (1) this will be a consumer focused device costing around $200 and (2) they plan to partner with carriers in order to force the manufacturing and marketing expenses off on the carrier. Conceptually it’s a great plan, and I wish them the best of luck (not the least of which because I want one of the devices), but carriers are incredibly slow moving, and are often very reluctant to make deals like this with small, untested startups.
