Energy Hike Could Hurt Tech Companies

from the not-a-good-situation dept

Things aren’t looking good in California. Dot coms are failing everywhere, you can’t get DSL, and now they’ve finally raised energy rates. The new energy prices are likely to hurt a bunch of companies that are already struggling to pay the bills. This continues to be a ridiculous situation. I would still support a schedule of “planned” blackouts to avoid having to pay more for energy costs. Anyway, this is causing some companies to look into relocating, and the blackouts are directly and indirectly costing companies a great deal. Hosting companies, which use up a ton of energy are expected to pass such costs on to their customers (who can least afford it). While the tech economy certainly isn’t going well, the energy situation could be making it significantly worse in the near future.
