How A Small Group Forced Yahoo To Remove Porn

from the our-mixed-up-priorities dept

Salon has an in-depth story about the “uproar” that caused Yahoo! to remove porn from their site. Apparently, a lot of the pressure came from the American Family Association who see the “mainstreaming of porn” on Yahoo! as a huge evil. Of course, I wonder why they didn’t say anything two years ago when Yahoo! actually started selling porn. I also find the story amusing because it describes how the legal counsel for the American Family Association went on Yahoo and found all sorts of porn. This guy must see so much porn. If porn really messes you up as badly as these guys want us to believe, that they must be pretty messed up themselves. The article also has some good quotes from the bigger players in the porn industry saying they like it when the AFA takes on Yahoo! because that keeps porn as an “underground” thing, increasing demand, while taking away more mainstream competitors.
