Dot Com Deals Going Going Gone

from the too-bad dept

Been reading about all those auctions of old dot com equipment? So have a lot of other people. At a recent auction of leftover dot com equipment tons of newcomers showed up, raising prices beyond the deal level, and pissing off lots of auction regulars. My favorite is the woman who kept yelling out “sixty!” to bid on a file cabinet even after the bidding was well over $100. In a weird way, this does point out a trait that is both good and bad in many dot commers: they don’t care about tradition or the way things are “supposed to be done”. Sometimes that’s good, because they’re creative. Many times its bad, because you can often learn a lot from the way people did things before you.
