Researchers Use Collective Brain Power

There have been plenty of stories about distributed applications that use your computer’s spare cycles – but here’s an article about projects that basically ask random people for some of their own spare time. There are a few projects out there (including one from NASA) that ask people (non-experts) to sort through all sorts of data and help them out in a way a computer couldn’t. How long until we start having for profit companies organizing such things?
