Is 3D Browsing Around the Corner?

from the yeah,-so? dept

Anonymous writes MIT’s Technology Review has a story that details a new idea from 2CE called 3D browsing that allows you to look at up to 6 websites simultaneously. The story also claims that this technology may eventually lead to virtual reality on the web.” This seems like a bit of overkill. There are other systems out there that let you look at multiple pages at once, and that seem to be much less system taxing. Besides, the 3D aspect of it really isn’t all that appealing. For years people have been claiming that we’ll have a 3D virtual reality web browsing environment, and yet I don’t recall many people actually having a real need for such a system. Anyone remember the VRML hype from a few years back?
