Bertelsmann/Napster Confusion

from the a-communications-problem? dept

There’s been some confusion lately about just when Napster is going to sign deals with music labels and start offering its “paid only” service. Bertelsmann CEO, Thomas Middlehoff made some claims for them last week, but Napster CEO Hank Barry made some conflicting statements. Apparently, some of the initial questions caught Barry off guard and he changed his story later in the week. As the article suggests, maybe he just didn’t get the memo. Either way, it suggests that there are, at the very least, communication problems between Napster and their “saviors”, Bertelsmann. I sense a great business school case-study in the making.
