Televillage Out Of Money
from the oops dept
A housing development in the UK designed specifically for telecommuting workers has run out of money. The idea was to build a housing development that came wired for high speed internet access. Unfortunately, a number of the homes are still vacant, and none of the homes actually have that promised high speed internet access. I think this demonstrates part of the problem with these “developments of the future”. They put to much of the focus on this one use of the house. There’s no real reason why a development has to be specific for telecommuters. It’s nice to have that technology, but when that’s the focus, it seems to come at the cost of other things.
