Predictions Are Difficult
from the taking-wild-guesses dept
Usually our articles about predictions have to do with people looking forward from today. Here’s an article about a time capsule that was buried in 1962 and was just dug up. The time capsule was buried at the front door to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Route Traffic Control Center, so many of the predictions have to do with air travel. Of course, they were a little more optimistic than reality. They predicted faster, more impressive airplanes. They also expected more in the way of space travel. A few predictions were pretty close, though. Someone predicted telephone answering systems that would get rid of the need for receptionists.
