IM Working Group Will Not Chose Standard

Okay, I’m not sure I understand exactly what happened here. The Instant Messaging and Presence Protocol working group that was supposed to be hammering out an IM standard for everyone to use has announced that it’s just not going to pick a standard. What was the point of getting the group together then?
