Please Explain What You Do
from the speaking-in-circles dept
Okay, I almost never listen to any of these audio/video financial reports on the internet. I accidentally clicked on an interview with the CEO of Genuity. The subject looked interesting: “Huge Overreaction to Dot-Com Crash”. So, I listened to the first question. Interviewer: “An internet infrastructure services company? I think some investors are still having trouble getting their hands around what that exactly means. Can you explain what Genuity does and where you fit in the spectrum?”. The answer made me stop listening to the rest. Genuity CEO: “Sure. Let me explain how I look at Genuity and what we’re providing. We’re an e-business network provider that provides these infrastructure services to enterprise customers. So these are mid to large size corporations that are moving their business to the internet to reduce their cost and improve their productivity and are looking for someone to provide these infrastructure services.” Talk about speaking in circles.

My companies an infrastructure company!
The amount of verbal fluff that people use to describe services in this sector is pretty sickening (my company also does this to a lesser extent but not too badly at least). Some of our competitors use such vague product names that you’d never know exactly what it is that your looking to buy. There really should be an internet service that ensures clear English in business sites!

For you slow people, that means genuity will host your web site on THEIR servers and use THEIR network connection to the internet (which is much faster than you could ever get to your office). Quite simply its outsourcing your web site business so you don’t have to worry about upgrading servers, paying Telco costs etc.
