LA Radio Station Goes Cyberspace Only

from the radio-is-so-last-millennium dept

An LA radio station has stopped broadcasting radio waves and has moved solely into cyberspace. The article looks a little into why the station made the decision to go internet-only. It also looks at the challenges the station will face in the future – such as all the competition from online radio stations (and amateur programmers) as well as the problem of being tied to a PC in order to listen to a broadcast. It will be interesting to see whether or not the station will be able to survive using the same business model (selling ad spots). Admittedly there is potential for a much larger audience, but it’s also more difficult for listeners to stumble across the station. Publicity for an online radio station is a very different world.
