The Whole Stephen King Thing

from the more-intellectual-property dept

Okay, if all the stories today seem to be about intellectual property, I might as well add one more. I didn’t post anything about Stephen King’s experiement with the honor system in giving out a downloadable book, but it is an interesting idea. A lot of people applauded it and thought it was a smart way to do things. I’m not so sure of that. Here’s an article that seems to agree with me. It says it was a very creative move, but also suggests that it’s not something that is sustainable long term. Instead, like Napster, authors should perhaps consider just giving their book away online, in order to drive sales of the physical copy of the book.
