The Danger of Stopping Technology Research
from the response-to-Bill-Joy dept
I didn’t really get into the whole Bill Joy debate on whether or not we should stop nano-tech research before we even get really started, because I thought it was well covered in many places. However, I just came across an excellent article from last week which gives a great explanation as to why not doing the research may, in fact, be more dangerous.

Ted K, who wrote the unabombers manifesto, was not just the basis of Bill Joys article. Bill Joy pretty much ripped off the manifesto completely. (Paragraphs 172 to 178).
Ted was the unibomber, so no one listened then, but because Bill Joy is not, we all applaud him.. for copying Ted’s work. Maybe Teddy wasn’t so nuts, eh?
