Yahoo! Chooses Google

from the getting-better dept

Yahoo! has decided to use Google’s search technology on their site, replacing Inktomi. An earlier report on this said Google was replacing AltaVista which didn’t make any sense to me (since I thought Yahoo had dropped AltaVista a couple of years ago). It makes a lot of sense for Yahoo!. Google is definitely a better technology, and I’ve never been that impressed with Inktomi’s searches anyway. Of course, I’m sure sharing a board member didn’t hurt either. Also, the similarities in their histories (both companies started by a pair of Stanford University PhD students) makes for a nice story.
