Using Satellites to Help Your Golf Swing
from the sickening.--really,-really-sickening. dept
A very funny article from the Register talking about a company that wants to track golf balls by satellite to help you improve your game. The Register (not a shy publication) notes some of the many problems with this plan. You already know where your golf ball goes. That’s not going to really help your game very much. However, they do point out the obsessive nature of folks who play golf, who will do just about anything to try to improve their game.

I’m certain that this gadget isn’t going to uplink anything to a satellite; it’s just going to mark a GPS waypoint for every shot. I can do that today with a cheap GPS receiver — all I need is a golf course map to overlay with points, and with the military removing their impediments to accuracy, the results would even be reasonably accurate, but I still agree that it’s not going to improve anybody’s game.
