Legitimate Corporations Spamming

from the more-spam dept

Salon continues to look into spam this week, and the latest article from Simson Garfinkel is about legitimate corporations that spam you. He feels that this is the real threat. I’m not so sure about this. While he gives examples of companies that have “spammed” him, it doesn’t seem like this happens all that often. Most companies are pretty good about having an “opt-in” system, and all make it quite easy to get out if you change your mind. It seems very rare that a company puts you on a list without you opting in. I think a bigger problem is all those dot com promotions that turn you into a spammer by making you try to sign up 10 of your friends.
