Changing Chat and Newsgroups

from the does-it-need-to-be-changed? dept

Here’s a very interesting article about a project to change the way chat and newsgroups work. They’re trying to make them more valuable by trying to indicate whether or not a person is talking to you or to others and things like that. To me, this just seems a hell of a lot more confusing than the way it is now. Newsgroups and chat rooms have been around for ages (much longer than the web) and they’ve lasted because they’re simple and people understand them. I’m not sure there’s much need to try to make these changes, and it’s not clear that anyone actually wants these changes.
