Bell Atlantic/GTE to Become Verizon

Bell Atlantic and GTE, who are merging have announced they’ll be dropping both of their names in favor of Verizon. Huh? Seems a bit pointless, as they now have to build a new brand around that, and if I was Verisign, I’d sue. Verizon certainly sounds like the type of meaningless names companies have been coming up with these days. I wonder how much they paid a “naming” firm to drum up that one.
