Scan This
from the virtual-shopping-list dept
Symbol Technologies plans on using its bar code scanning device and technology to cater to the dot coms. Basically a user can scan the bar code of (for example) a milk carton once all the milk is gone… In essence, the user would be creating a shopping list that could be uploaded to a dot com grocer.
The implications of this device are huge and many dot coms are looking into using it.

I thought of this about 5 years ago
Using a newton. I rejected it as anal.
1.5 years ago, a company was going to provide comparitive shopping in real time with a palm…
So this is the logical extention.
And, unless it is free to the end-user you are gathering info aboute, no one will PAY money to do this…unless they like lotsa hi-tech toys.
PlanetRX allows you to scan...
PlanetRX allows you to use the scanner to simly scan the stuff you have at home, and then order more of it from them… Again, it’s a neat concept, but I think the cost of the scanner is a huge barrier to entry — there’s nothing on the site that says that PlanetRX will subsidize the cost, but that would make sense, eh?
