Laws get tough to protect children

from the It's-about-time dept

On April 21st a new law will go into effect that forces online Web sites to protect the information they collect when it is for children under the age of 18. It requires them to receive explicit permission from the guardians/parents of the children in order to collect any personal information at all. I think this is great. I can guarantee it’s a pain in the ass for the Web sites, but that’s too bad. I get 20-30 messages a day that are pure junk and even I have trouble sifting through the crap from the regular email I want to read. It’d be impossible for a kid to do it…
