Wired to Buy Back Wired.com?

Apparently, Wired Magazine is negotiating to buy back the wired.com domain name from Lycos. I could never understand why they sold the domain name in the first place. Of course, if that happens, it certainly could hurt Wired News (which I like a lot) as many folks will be confused on how to find it.
