Why 2 K ?

The government here in the UK have set up a site that will monitor any Y2K problems (starting in New Zealand). The thinking goes that it will act as a sort of early warning device but to be honest, less than a day isn’t very much time to fix major problems. However, anyone that would like to get a glimpse into the future, on the eve of 2000 should check it out.
