Random Bits of Tech Weirdness

from the technology-oddities dept

A few random bits of technology strangeness. First, the story of an 11 year old British kid who registered the name waterfordcrystal.com as a joke and has received emails wanting to order approximately $64,000 a week from the site. The folks at the real Waterford Crystal have been ignoring him saying the internet isn’t a good distribution system. Then, the NY Times has a report on the ever important mood ring for the internet. Just what we need. And, if you scroll down that same NY Times story you see a “special” cell phone that will only call 911. It costs $200. What they don’t mention is that ANY cell phone, whether or not it has service is always able to dial 911. So, you don’t need to spend $200… you just need to find that old Nokia or Motorola you never junked. But, to be fair, those don’t go the extra step and offer a 95-decibel siren.
