IBM to Buy PeopleSoft?

The big rumor of the day is that IBM is preparing to buy PeopleSoft. It’s certainly a believable rumor, and it sounds like the type of company IBM would buy, but I’m not sure it really makes sense for them. PeopleSoft has run into trouble for a lot of reasons and its not clear that IBM is in a position to fix that. Either way, if it goes through, then hopefully IBM will stop those extraordinarily annoying commercials PeopleSoft has been running. Whose bright idea were those? The commercials make no sense whatsoever, have some overly dramatic announcer guy walking through random places and pronouncing very serious sounding cliches and then walking away.
