Britannica Web Site Shuts Down

from the too-much-knowledge dept

There were tons and tons of articles (which I did not post) yesterday about the launch of Encyclopedia Britannica online for free. An interesting story, definitely, but I didn’t think it needed to be posted. Much more interesting, to me at least, is the fact that with all the hype, the website couldn’t stand up to the traffic and got knocked out. Reminds me of the IBM commercial where the marketing guy forgets to tell his tech people that a ton of traffic is about to hit the site.
