Open Source Journalism – Part II

from the changing-the-stories dept

Salon is running a piece about how the fun folks over at Slashdot killed a story in Jane’s before it even got published. Jane’s ran the article by Slashdotter’s before officially publishing, and the Slashdot fairthful destroyed it. In response Jane’s decided to kill the article and run comments from the Slashdot crowd. Now everyone’s arguing whether or not this is a good thing. Some interesting questions brought up by the article. My opinion is that it’s an interesting method of “peer review”, but also you risk publishing at the lowest common denominator and losing some important critical voices with a differernt perspective if something like this takes over.
